THE unsilly GOSLING
“Unsilly” is such a strange word! But I wanted to make a contrast to expression “silly goose” that we are familiar with. The star of this book is Guven, the “odd duck” in his family who thinks for himself. He doesn’t choose to be like he is — he was just born that way! He is just un-silly, not believing everything her hears.
Some readers have noticed a hometown feel to this book that reminds them of people they grew up with. Me too! Every town and family has its Gertrudes and Gustaves who do their best to inform their young, even when the lessons are uncaring. And every town and family has a Given, who compares what his is told with wheat he sees with his own eyes.
The Unsilly Gosling encourages young readers to be like Guven, avoiding quick judgments about others, and making deep connections along the way!
The illustrations
I used PowerPoint (again!) to illustrate this book. One trick I learned: draw you creatures in parts (arms, heads, legs, wings) so you can move the pieces around until you like the end result!
